M Barraclough was the name of a mineral water manufacturing company set up in Baildon by Miles Barraclough.

  • Mary Barraclough, Daughter-in-Law, 25, born Lofthouse.

1891 census 36 Northgate

  • Miles Barraclough 64, Herb Beer Manufacturer. Employer.
  • Wife Hannah 63.
  • Grandson, William Alderson, 22, assisting in business, born Shipley.

This suggests that Miles and Hannah has a daughter who married a Mr Alderson.

1888 Kelly´s Directory of Leeds Mils Barraclough of Northgate is listed as a Sausage Manufacturer

1894 White´s Directory of Leeds & the Clothing District Miles Barraclough of Northgate, Baildon is listed as a Shopkeeper.

He died 3 April 1907 living at 44 Northgate. Probate to Charles Barraclough (?son) 7 May £1723 17s

  • Pamela Alderson, 34 wife.
  • Charles Alderson, 10 son.

  • Charles Alderson, 36. Milk Dealer.
  • Annie, his wife, 33 assisting in the business.

The M Barraclough company in 1960s & 70s was owned by Miles & Jack Alderson and operated from the Westgate warehouse between 7 and 9 Westgate. Photo below.
